چکیده
Abstract. The recent advancements in climate modeling partially build on the improvement of horizontal resolution different components simulating system. A higher is expected to provide a better representation variability, and this work we are particularly interested potential improvements representing extreme events high temperature precipitation. two versions Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC-CM2) model used here adopt highest resolutions available within last family global coupled models developed at CMCC participate Coupled Model Intercomparison Projects, Phase 6 (CMIP6) effort. main aim study document ability CMCC-CM2 represent spatial distribution precipitation, under historical period, comparing results observations, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) reanalysis (ERA5), multi-source weighted-ensemble precipitation (MSWEP) Climate Hazards Group infrared with station data (CHIRPS) observations. For more detailed evaluation use both 6-hourly daily time series, compute indices representative intense conditions. In terms mean climate, able realistically reproduce patterns version (1/4∘ resolution) atmospheric provides than standard one (1°), not only means but also defined frequencies. This case average On other hand improved by adoption resolution.

Contrasting the termination of moderate and extreme El Niño events in coupled general circulation models
As in the observed record, the termination of El Niño in the coupled IPCC-AR4 climate models involves meridional processes tied to the seasonal cycle. These meridional processes both precondition the termination of El Niño events in general and lead to a peculiar termination of extreme El Niño events (such as those of 1982–83 and 1997–98), in which the eastern equatorial Pacific warm sea surfac...

Investigation of the atmospheric circulation anomalies associated with extreme rainfall events over the Coastal West Africa
This study investigates the atmospheric circulation associated with extreme rainfall events over the coastal West Africa. The rainfall data of this study were obtained from the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC), spanning from 1981 to 2010. The atmospheric datasets were also obtained from the ERA-Interim reanalysis. The study employed the Z-Index to categorize dry and wet years into...
متن کاملResolution Dependence in Modeling Extreme Weather Events
At Argonne National Laboratory we have developed a high performance regional climate modeling simulation capability based on the NCAR MM5v3.4. The regional climate simulation system at Argonne currently includes a Java-based interface to allow rapid selection and generation of initial and boundary conditions, a high-performance version of MM5v3.4 modified for long climate simulations on our 512...
متن کاملA Very High Resolution General Circulation Model Simulation of the Global Circulation in Austral Winter
This paper discusses a simulation obtained with the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory ‘‘SKYHI’’ troposphere–stratosphere–mesosphere general circulation model run at very high horizontal resolution (;60-km grid spacing) and without any parameterization of subgrid-scale gravity wave drag. The results are for a period around the austral winter solstice, and the emphasis is on the simulated Sou...
